I am trying to play a video file that has been taken with my camera but it is not playing?

The video file must have the following codecs for successful playback –

Video – MPEG-4 (640 x 480 25fps)

Audio – MP3 (128 Kbps 48 KHz)

You can use a free program called MediaInfo which will display what codecs are being used in your video files –

If they don’t match the above you will have to use a video editing or conversion program to change the settings.
